The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Bioethics Academy (SNFBA) is proud to announce that it will be hosting the 2nd Annual SNFBA Intensive Course at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center in Athens, Greece October 31 – November 3, 2021.

The Bioethics Intensive Course is an annual training activity of the SNFBA whose goal is to support and enhance knowledge and awareness for bioethics among biomedical researchers, policy professionals, and healthcare administrators in Greece.

The course is co-directed by Prof. Jeffrey Kahn, the Andreas C. Dracopoulos Director of the Johns Hopkins Berman Institute of Bioethics (JHU) and Prof. Effy Vayena, Head of the Health Ethics and Policy Lab at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH).

The 2nd Annual SNFBA will be a three-day intensive course focusing on Ethics in the Time of COVID-19 and will include lectures by international faculty and small group discussions facilitated by SNFBA faculty from JHU, ETH, and Greek universities.

  • Ethical Issues Faced in Greece During the Pandemic
  • Ethics and Public Health Policy—Mandates and Restrictions Imposed by Government, Institutions, and Businesses
  • Research Ethics During a Pandemic
  • Breakout discussions led by SNFBA faculty
  • Performance and Discussion by Theater of War Production
  • Public Event—Panel Discussion on Ethics and Greece’s COVID-19 Response
  • Group dinners and networking opportunities

Evening of October 31 to midday November 3, 2021

ELIGIBILITY AND COST
Applications are encouraged from professionals working in institutions in Greece, the Balkans, and Southern Europe with the following experience and expertise:

  • Professionals working in clinical care or biomedical research
  • Students in graduate or professional programs in healthcare, public health, or biomedical research
  • Members of ethics committees in hospitals or research ethics review committees in academic institutions, research organizations, or industry
  • Policy makers involved in biomedicine/health/biotechnology sectors
  • Others not listed may contact the organizers for questions about eligibility

Participation in the SNFBA is free of charge to accepted participants, and fully supported through the generosity of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). Airfare and lodging is provided to accepted participants living outside of Greece, as well as to accepted participants who reside outside of Athens where travel is required.  The total number of participants is limited to 50 to preserve an interactive and intensive experience.
